Campus Profile

Framed by redwoods and overlooking the bay and Pacific Ocean, Humboldt State University is located on the northern coast of California in the charming rural town of Arcata (population 17,300). Humboldt County, with its 110 miles of beaches, 6 rivers, 40 parks and recreation areas and the world’s tallest trees, is a mecca for the outdoor enthusiast. When a change of pace is needed, one can drive to San Francisco, the Napa Valley or Portland, Oregon for a weekend getaway. With a mild year round climate, the possibilities for exploration and recreation are without end.

HSU is located on 144 acres, with a population of close to 8,000 students and 508 faculty. Learning to make a difference is a core value at HSU, and service learning, civic engagement, and social responsibility are incorporated into many of our courses. Facilities include the Schatz Energy Research Center, HSU Marine Lab, the Coral Sea marine research vessel, Natural History Museum, and the Redwood Community forest.
