Campus Profile

North Carolina State University is located in Raleigh, the state capitol, with a population of over 400,000. It is conveniently situated midway between the Great Smoky Mountains and the beautiful beaches of North Carolina (about a three-hour drive each direction). From its comfortable climate, to its easy access to a variety of activities including art galleries, museums and professional sports teams, Raleigh has something for everyone. Founded in 1887, NCSU comprises 1683 acres that include more than 150 buildings, courtyards, and playing fields. It is one of the nation’s major public institutions: large, complex, international in scope, and a leader in science, engineering, and technology. It shares the distinctive character of land-grant universities: broad academic offerings, extensive public service activities, and large-scale extension and research programs. More than 325 student organizations are active on campus.
