Campus Profile

LOCATION. Tennessee State University is located in Nashville, Tennessee which is known as "Music City USA" because of its vibrant country music industry. Also known as "The Athens of the South," Nashville is home to such tourist attractions as the Grand Ole Opry and the world's only exact reproduction of the Greek Parthenon.

THE UNIVERSITY. Tennessee State University was founded in 1912. It has a diverse mission and unique characteristics as a land-grant, major state-supported urban and comprehensive historically Black university. TSU has two campuses. The 450-acre main campus is located near the Cumberland River and has more than 65 buildings, outdoor recreational facilities, pastures, and farm land. The Avon Williams campus is located near the center of Nashville's business and government district. TSU offers diverse and highly respected academic programs featuring Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees.

For Plan A U.S. students, aid is awarded by and disbursed from your host campus. Students apply for federally funded financial aid by using the FAFSA code of their host campus. Host campuses award aid to incoming Plan A students on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funds are available. Ask your home campus NSE coordinator if your campus awards aid to their own outgoing students. If so, do not apply for aid from your host campus.
