Why Exchange Within the U.S. and Canada

When the concept of exchange is mentioned, most of us think international. The truth is that relatively few students take that step. Thinking globally begins a bit closer to home for NSE students who cross state, regional, provincial, and cultural borders to experience a change of people, place, and opportunity.

The concept of study abroad or study away in practice is any experience that allows students to experience life from a different point of view.

In many areas of study, remaining in the U.S. or Canada makes more sense due to academic compatibility as well as for affordability and personal safety. Most students will move elsewhere after they graduate to find employment or attend graduate school. NSE provides an opportunity for students to explore the feasibility of living in an area of interest for future study or work.

The changing diversity in culture and ethnicity across the United States, its territories, and Canada presents numerous challenges and opportunities for tomorrow's citizens and leaders. Through your exchange, you will have an opportunity to gain insight into the historical and cultural makeup of different regions, improve your communications skills with individuals from different backgrounds, and prepare yourself to live and work in a culturally diverse society.

"NSE opens your mind to other cultures and helps you become more tolerant, patient, and accepting."
