| ABOUT THE PROGRAM: | Founded in the College of Arts & Sciences in 1963, the University of Toledo Honors Program became university-wide in 1988 and is thus a well established and mature entity on campus. The program has approximately 900 students in all seven of the baccalaureate colleges (Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Health Science & Human Service, Nursing, and Pharmacy. It is housed in a beautiful stand-alone facility, Sullivan Hall. It is a student-centered program with an emphasis on small class-size, ethical awareness, challenging intellectual course content, intensive academic advising, student self governance, experiential learning, undergraduate research, and peer mentoring. The maximum class size is 16 to 18 students in the core courses of the Honors Program, which are Readings Conference I & II [100 level], the Multicultural Literatures sequence [2000 level], and the Interdisciplinary Senior Seminars [4000 level]. The Honors Thesis Research class typically enrolls 8 to 10 students. There is also an Honors Program Cultural Experience Credit that gives one Honors credit hour for attending and reporting on 16 cultural or intellectual events on campus or in the city. Faculty members teaching for the Honors Program have included UT Outstanding Teachers, UT Outstanding Research Awardees, Arts & Sciences Master Teachers, Distinguished University Professors, department chairs, prominent and accomplished Toledo citizens, and other nationally recognized scholars and teachers. The Interdisciplinary seminars are often team-taught. Honors students conduct research and write a senior thesis or conduct a project on a topic in the fine arts, humanities, social sciences, business, education, one of the natural sciences, engineering, one of the health sciences/human services, or pharmacy. |
