|About The Program: Students learn about topics ranging from basic dive skills, to underwater rescue procedures, to marine data collection while becoming familiar with local fish and invertebrate species and collaborating on research projects. Additionally, students will learn basic skiff handling and engine maintenance techniques, critical to underwater field work. Students can expect to log between 25 and 50 dry suit dives. Sitka is a vibrant community with plentiful outdoor recreation, arts events and amenities.|
Program Requirements: There is a priority application deadline for spring semester of October 15 followed by an open enrollment until filled (15 participants max.) Contact Reid Brewer, the Program Director for application details.
Program Costs: As a part if the course fee, dive gear, scientific sampling gear, and air fills are included. Students will have the opportunity to log between 40-60 dry suit dives. Costs are based on 12 credits. Actual costs are dependent on class schedule, meal and housing choices. Estimated tuition and fee cost = $4,500, Housing, meals and incidentals = $6,000 for a total cost of $10,500. Does not include travel costs.
