Listed below are changes or new information received after the Directory of Exchange Opportunities for 2008-2009 was published.

Queens College, City University of New York

Queens College in New York City is implementing an Arts Events program – a series of cultural and social events scheduled throughout each semester. These group outings for NSE students include, but are not limited to, visits to the opera, ballet, Broadway and off-Broadway theatres, concerts, meals in ethnic restaurants, and walking and boat tours. This is a required program for incoming NSE students at a cost of $320 each semester, Plan A and Plan B. For those students for whom the fee is an undue burden, the NSE office may be able to offer work opportunities in the Education Abroad Office to help offset some of the costs.

Sonoma State University

Sonoma State University will not accept any incoming students for 2008-2009, but will resume placement activity to accept students for 2009-2010. 1/9/08

University of Hawaii at Manoa

THE PRICE OF PARADISE: INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS SEEKING EXCHANGE TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT MANOA, 2008-2009

PLAN B: A very limited number of students can be accepted on Plan B. Students from schools offering Plan A cannot be accepted on Plan B, unless UHM is sending a Plan B student to that school.

TUITION: Tuition will be approximately $3,100 per semester, including campus fees (check nse.org for updated financial information). Plan A students receiving financial aid from the home school can have tuition deferred until that aid arrives

PLAN A AND FINANCIAL AID: Most students accepted on Plan A will need to apply for financial aid from UHM. Be sure to list its FAFSA code as early as possible, and respond promptly to all communications from the UHM financial aid office (at least two months are required to process aid applications after the student's file is complete, including verification process, etc.)

HOUSING: Limited campus housing is available. Those students receiving campus housing applications must follow up promptly. The range of costs is approximately $2,000 to $2,800 per semester (depending on hall, for a double room; this does not include meal plan purchase, which is required for the residence halls, not for campus apartments). A deposit is due upon assignment (usually sometime mid-summer.) See www.housing.hawaii.edu for the latest information and rates. A few students willing to live off-campus will be accepted, mostly on Plan A. However, off-campus rentals are scarce and expensive (Honolulu rents have been cited as the most expensive in the US, above those in New York City and San Francisco.)

PARKING: There is NO CAMPUS PARKING for NSE students.

CATALOG: For advising purposes, the UHM course catalog is available at our website, www.catalog.hawaii.edu. We will mail the fall schedule of courses as soon as it is available, around April 20; it is also posted on-line at that time, at www.hawaii.edu/myuh/manoa.

REGISTRATION PRIORITY: Registration for exchange students is quite late (with transfers). There is no guarantee of getting courses, and students need much flexibility in courses they plan to take as some will be closed by the time they register. In general, we are not a good exchange campus for seniors. If a major is not listed on the searchable majors list on nse.org, it is not available to exchange students. UPPER DIVISION BUSINESS COURSES ARE CLOSED TO EXCHANGE STUDENTS.

CAMPUS CLIMATE: UHM is a commuter campus (only 15% of students reside on campus, and many of them go home on weekends), and there is not much campus life.
