SUNY Fredonia (New York)



LOCATION. SUNY Fredonia is a selective, public, comprehensive, liberal arts university located near Lake Erie in beautiful western New York. The 249-acre campus is distinguished by a master plan designed by the firm of I.M. Pei and Partners, and most of the contemporary buildings were designed by Pei. The historic cultural center, Chautauqua Institution, is a short drive away and is a partner to SUNY Fredonia in cultural and intellectual programming.

THE COLLEGE. SUNY Fredonia has maintained a consistent presence in national college rankings and is currently ranked 12th in the North among public universities by U.S. News and World Report. Statistics on graduation rates show that Fredonia has the seventh best graduation rate in the nation. With a founding date of 1826, the campus is among the oldest in the State University of New York and is home to one of the system's premiere music programs. Fredonia's degree programs range among more than 100 fields of study in the liberal arts, professions, natural and social sciences, mathematics, education, and emerging fields of technology, service, and communication.

LIMITATIONS. Entrance to upper division courses for music, art, communication and speech pathology may be difficult. Courses listed for “Majors Only” may not be chosen. Audition or portfolio is required for admission to some music, theatre and art courses. Non-native English speakers must have a TOEFL score of 500 paper, 173 computer, or 64 Internet.
